Cape Town - Western Cape police are searching for 21-year-old man believed to have drowned at the Rocking the Daisies festival on Friday.

“The identity of the man cannot be released at this stage,” Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said.

Rescuers were called to the festival after receiving reports of a possible drowning in a dam where the event was being held on Friday morning.

Festival spokesperson Darryn Lee said the festival's organisers were aware of it and it was being investigated. More information would be made available later.

Channel24 editor Herman Eloff, who is at the festival, said access to the dam had been closed off. Police and ambulances were on the scene.

The festival, in Darling, is underway until October 9.
