Police uncover R2m's worth of perlemoen at illegal plant

Cape Town – Perlemoen (abalone) with an estimated street value of R2 million was found in an illegal processing facility near Atlantis, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

Officers went with a search warrant to a smallholding along Klein Dassenberg Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to the police's Facebook page.

They confiscated chemicals and cooking, cleaning, drying and packaging equipment.

Also seized were 6151 wet perlemoen and 14 014 perlemoen.

According to the police, six people between 19 and 43 years of age were arrested.

They were expected to appear in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
