Polokwane – Police in Polokwane have launched an operation to get drug dealers off the streets.

At least nine people were arrested and some spaza shops were closed on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Drug activity and related crimes had been increasing in the Polokwane and Westenburg policing areas recently.

The owner of one spaza shop was given notice to appear before an immigration officer to ascertain if he was registered with SARS and to verify the legality of his asylum status.

Last week, local residents killed a Nigerian man alleged to be dealing in drugs.
