Port Elizabeth - A robber asked a priest at an Anglican church in Port Elizabeth to pray for him as he made off with congregants' cellphones and money, Netwerk24 reported.

The armed robber threatened the priest and 11 members of the St Mark and St John Anglican Church in Van der Kemp Street just after 10:00 on Saturday, police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said.

He was dressed in a grey and black hoodie and wore sunglasses.

The robber walked from pew to pew, demanding cellphones and money. A camera was also taken.

He then apparently asked the priest to pray for him before he left.

No-one was injured during the incident. Police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
