Pretoria – A woman who was due to give birth this week lost her baby after an employee of a car wash at a Sasol filling station in Gezina drove over her on Saturday.

The employee was not authorised to drive the vehicle, Netwerk24 reported.

Sasol spokesperson Alex Anderson said Belinda Louw, 35, was in the waiting area at the filling station while her car was being washed. The employee wanted to drive a Toyota Fortuner from the washing area to the area where cars are vacuumed and polished.

"The employee, who was not authorised to move the vehicle, decided to drive the vehicle without permission and in violation of the franchise’s policies," Anderson said.

The man lost control of the vehicle, hurtled into the waiting area and drove over Louw.

She was 38 weeks pregnant and her son would have been born through a Caesarean section on Friday. His name would have been Ryan.

Louw is still under sedation and in a critical condition in the Muelmed Hospital. She suffered several internal injuries and broken bones. She has had two operations so far.

Her brother, Xander Louw, told Netwerk24 she wanted to get her car washed before the birth of her son.

Just before the accident, she had a cup of coffee with her boyfriend and father of her unborn baby, Corné Hitge, at the carwash. He had just got back to work at City Wheels Auction House next door when the accident happened. It was his birthday on Monday.

The police were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.
