Pretoria – A 23-year-old man, who allegedly murdered his girlfriend at a tavern in Cullinan in Pretoria, handed himself over to the police on Monday, Gauteng police said.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning when the couple fought over an alcoholic drink, said Constable Connie Moganedi.

"The man told the police that he ended up hitting the victim on the head with a stone," she said.

The woman was rushed to Mamelodi Hospital, where she later died.

The man remains in custody and is expected to appear in the Cullinan Magistrates’s Court soon.
