Johannesburg – Five Europa night club cashiers were arrested after they allegedly embezzled R126 000, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

The cashiers were arrested following a tip-off received by a senior staff member at the popular night club in Sunnyside in Pretoria, police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 26, were caught during a sting operation on Thursday night.

Mavimbela said the alleged crime was committed over a two-week span.

"It is believed that the suspects achieved their exploits by reproducing and misrepresenting receipts from the previous sales, which subsequently created a conflict in excess of R126 000 between the club's receipts and banked income."

They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday, facing a charge of fraud.
