Free State - Investigations are underway after a mining employee was killed while working underground at Harmony’s Phakisa mine near Welkom at the weekend.

Harmony Gold Mining’s management said in a statement that the worker died in a "rail bound related incident".

Spokesperson Henrika Ninham said the company, as well as the Department of Mineral Resources, was investigating the incident.

The company would not divulge any information on the incident or the person involved due to "company policy", she added.
