Pretoria – Construction and property magnate Cosmas Cavaleros is reportedly in a serious condition in the Unitas Hospital in Centurion after suffering a heart attack when armed robbers allegedly threatened him at a shopping centre in Pretoria.

According to Netwerk24, Cavaleros had parked his gold Bentley in the undercover parking at the Menlyn Main shopping centre on Sunday. The robbers were apparently lying in wait.

Captain Jan Sepato said Cavaleros tried to get away, but drove into a boom gate.

He said there was not much information available yet about the incident because the police had not yet been able to speak to Cavaleros.

"We don't know how many armed men there were, we don't have a description of them and we don't know what vehicle they were driving."

Sepato confirmed that no shots were fired.

The Cavaleros Group owns and develops properties in Sandton and on the East Rand.
