Protest at Kliptown turns violent

Johannesburg - Police have fired rubber bullets at protesters in Kliptown south of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said community members barricaded roads with rocks and tyres.

He said shops in the area are closed.

"We are unaware of the reasons for the protest," Makhubela told News24.

No one has been arrested during the protest.

Police are monitoring the situation.
