Pretoria - Tshwane Metro Police officers fired rubber bullets at protesters outside of Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa's parent’s home in Atteridgeville in Pretoria on Saturday.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini Metro officers were at the scene.

The community appears to be unhappy about the selection of candidates ahead of the local government elections later this year.

Tyres were set alight. Bricks were also packed in the road and protesters threatened to burn down Ramokgopa's own home if the mayor did not address the community residents and also listen to them.

Community members claim that the votes have been rigged in the past and they fear it will happen again during the coming elections.

By Saturday evening the roads were still blocked.
