Cape Town – Parliament's ad hoc committee tasked with finding a replacement for Public Protector Thuli Madonsela will start putting candidates on a shortlist on Wednesday.

A total of 59 people were in line for the position.

The committee would deliberate on the criteria for shortlisting, on the number of candidates to make it to the next step, and decide how to process the comments and objections received during the public participation process.

Committee chairperson Makhosi Khoza said on Tuesday they would decide on dates for interviews, to be held after the August 3 elections.

The committee had until August 31 to nominate and present a candidate to the National Assembly.

Candidates vying to fill Madonsela’s shoes once her seven-year term ended in October included her deputy Kevin Malunga, former Cope MP Phillip Dexter, current ANC MP Loyiso Mpumlwana, and EFF chairperson Dali Mpofu.
