Durban - A boy was allegedly shot by a fellow pupil at a school in the Phoenix informal settlement on Friday afternoon, paramedics have said.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the 18-year-old male had sustained life-threatening injuries, said Netcare spokesperson Chris Botha in a statement.

"The advanced Life Support paramedic and her team worked fervently to stabilise the child," Botha said.

The pupil was transported to a specialised hospital, where he remained in a critical condition.

Details surrounding the incident were still unknown, but police were investigating.
