Cape Town - Doctors from Mediclinic and ER24 paramedics on Saturday saved a puppy from the hands of a man who tried to sell it for R10 on the streets of Cape Town.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said Dr Jan Killop and her colleague, Geoff Bettison were conducting a route inspection for an event being held in the city.
“While they were patrolling the route, they came across a man who tried to sell the puppy to them,” Vermaak said.

The puppy appeared to be extremely weak and dehydrated.

Killop decided to intervene and help the puppy.

It is believed that the puppy is four weeks old.

The police were also called to the scene.
“Event organisers soon heard about the ordeal and offered to sponsor him for a full vet check-up as well as food, toys and a bed,” he said.

The puppy was bathed and cared for until he started showing positive signs of rehydration.
According to Maxine Hall-Dickson, an advanced life support paramedic from ER24 that assisted with the care, said the puppy is bound to make a full recovery and is currently in ‘foster care’.
