“The uninformed call that President Zuma must fall are (sic) a ploy to divert a real conversation on racism that finds expression in the comments of a minority belonging to a particular party that is intent of achieving the impossible return to a racist past.” – ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa.

“I’m African and it’s a manner of disrespect calling out an elder [Zuma], but we are living in a modern world and everyone has their opinion and views.” – Sibusiso Skotana, 28, who lives in the block of flats from which the “Zuma Must Fall” banner was hung.

“The messages are replete with threats to kill all whites - including children; to rape white women or to expel all whites from South Africa.” – The FW de Klerk Foundation reacting to recent posts on social media, which it is reporting to the SA Human Rights Commission.

“The President regrets the error.” – The presidency apologising for President Jacob Zuma’s statement, made at a gala dinner for business people in Sandton in December, that Africa is the biggest continent on earth.

"All I can say is thank God for technology. The situation was actually saved by the fact that I was Skyping." – Tessa Reddy, who was robbed with her husband in their house in Melville while talking to her son in Paris via Skype. He heard what was happening and called his brother in Johannesburg and a friend in Cape Town for help.

“He has never been on a hunger strike. He needs a special diet for his condition and it’s not uncommon for a prisoner to be given a special diet. He was unable to stomach prison food and that is why he ended up in hospital in the first place.” – AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo’s spokesperson Mthunzi Ngonyama.

"He has been a nightmare. He refuses to co-operate." – An unnamed official at Mthatha’s Wellington prison on King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo.

"M-Net should tell him to go jump over his surname." – Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula in a tweet, reacting to sacked Idols presenter Gareth Cliff’s intention to sue M-Net. 

“If you can’t take a person down, you play the man. There are those that tried to take me down at last year’s conference, but they failed. So now they are playing the man.” – Western Cape ANC leader Marius Fransman on the allegations of sexual harassment he is facing.

"They don’t blame me for what happened. They know that I never allowed them to play in the car. I wish the car had not been here. It took the lives of these children." – Clermont, Durban, mechanic Ernest Phiri after four of his neighbours’ children died of heat stroke in a car parked in his yard.

“Girls, it is books before boys, let it remain so. Boys, stop chasing our girls, instead spend your energy chasing As." – Communications Minister Faith Muthambi speaking to pupils at the Peninghotsa High School near Malamulele, Limpopo.

"They just told us that we should come to an important speech, but we weren't told why or what it was about." – A man who claims his name is Lucky Black, saying DA members picked him up in the Johannesburg CBD and took him to DA leader Mmusi Maimane’s speech about racism.
