Kimberley – Four men are expected to appear in court after abalone worth R400 000 was found in their car in Calvinia, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.

The Hawks and police officers acted on a tip-off and stopped and searched a car travelling on the R27 last week Thursday, Lieutenant Philani Nkwalase said.

Sixteen plastic bags of abalone, with an estimated street value of R400 000, were found. Two men in the car were arrested. Later that day, another two men were arrested at another location.

The men would appear in the Calvinia Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
