Residents celebrate as rain hits Western Cape towns

Cape Town - Rain has hit parts of a drought-stricken Western Cape, with residents taking to social media to share videos and images of the downpour. 

According to the SA Weather Service, figures for the rainfall over 24 hours, as of 08:00 on Tuesday, are as follows:

  • Cape Agulhas - 22mm  
  • Cape point - 9mm   
  • Cape Town Slangkop - 1mm 
  • Grabouw - 13mm   
  • Hermanus - 24mm  
  • Kirstenbosch - 5mm   
  • Riversdale - 3mm  
  • Robertson - 1mm   
  • Stilbaai - 3mm   
  • Struisbaai - 16mm   
  • Swellendam - 27mm  
  • Tygerhoek - 37mm
