Cape Town - A worker was killed when she was hit by a truck near Tulbagh on Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, died on the R46 Nuwekloof Pass, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement.

"Paramedics were called to the scene after receiving reports that a truck had hit a road worker. On arrival, paramedics found the lifeless body of a woman lying in one of the lanes of the pass," he said.

"It is believed that the driver of a truck apparently lost control of his vehicle, causing it to smash into the mountainside and into the woman."

The woman had sustained multiple fatal injuries, Meiring confirmed.

"Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead on scene. The driver of the truck fortunately did not sustain any injuries."

Authorities were investigating.
