Roads in Dunoon reopened after spaza shops targeted

Cape Town - Violence in Dunoon escalated briefly on Monday following protest action in the area, with police Nyalas blocking off certain roads, pictures on social media show.

Images on Twitter show various hotspots in the embattled Dunoon area with rubbish strewn in the streets, after protesters started targeting foreign-owned spaza shops.

According to Eyewitness News, all entrances to the suburb were blocked by Nyalas for most of Monday morning, but were reopened around 11:00.

A MyCiti bus terminal has also been stoned.

MyCiti bus routes in the Table View area have also been affected. The company tweeted commuters on Monday to warn them of the disruption to the route.

There were also disruptions to Metrorail train services on Monday after vandalism and arson incidents over the past week.
