Eastern Cape - The Royal House of Mandela and the Mvezo Traditional Council have announced the death of Nyamelo Bennet, the son of clan elder Zwelithambile Napisili Mandela and Nosinala Mandela.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the family said Nyamelo served as a tour guide at the Qunu Museum in the village where Madiba grew up. He died on July 23 at the age of 47.

"His work at the Qunu Museum demonstrated his commitment to keeping alive the legacy of the father of our nation and to preserve for posterity the treasured memory and memorabilia of our global icon. We acknowledge and salute his valuable contribution as it serves as a reminder of the long walk to freedom that we as a nation have undertaken," read the statement.

The family said he would be laid to rest on Saturday in Qunu, Nkalane.
