Johannesburg – Motorists were urged to drive carefully in the stormy weather that reached large parts of the country on Monday, the Road Traffic Management Corporation said.

Drivers should keep their lights on, increase following distance, and reduce speed during wet weather, spokesperson Simon Zwane said.

"The best way to describe the situation at the moment is complete chaos," RescueCare's Garrith Jamieson told News24.

Heavy rain in Durban is due to continue on Tuesday.
