Durban – A woman had to be rescued after falling down Kloof Gorge in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, paramedic services said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with Rescue-Tech, DUT and Fire Services, arrived on the scene and found the 19-year-old woman lying some way down a cliff, a short distance below where she had been running.

Meiring said rescue technicians had to use specialised equipment to make their way down to the patient.

It was believed that the woman had been trail-running when she lost her footing and fell down the cliff, said Meiring.

"On assessment, paramedics found that the patient had sustained serious injuries to both her lower legs as well as her back. Paramedics placed the patient in a specialised stretcher and brought her back to the roadside."

Meiring said she was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for further treatment.
