Operations at the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, came to a halt on Tuesday following an early morning robbery.

The robbers made off with 18 computers and a company vehicle after they held up security guards at gunpoint.

KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a case of robbery had been opened.

"The complainant alleged that on June 25 at 01:00, he and his colleagues were performing their duties as security guards at the business premises when they were accosted by five men," Zwane added.

KZN Sassa spokesperson Mbizeni Mdlalose said the theft of the computers would not affect operations.

"We have contingency measures in place. But I can assure you operations will not be impacted, it's a matter of replacing the stolen computers should they not be recovered."

Mdlalose added that there was no confidential information on the computers and Sassa beneficiaries’ personal information was not compromised.

He said operations would be back to normal on Wednesday.
