Saturday's weather: Thunderstorms, rainfall predicted for most of the Cape

Severe thunderstorms, with possible heavy downpours, hail and localised flooding are expected in places over the Central Karoo, northern interior of the Eastern Cape, south eastern parts of the Northern Cape and western parts of Free State.

According to the SA Weather Service, significant rainfall, leading to localised flooding, is expected in places over the southern West Coast District and Atlantis Region of the Cape Metropole late on Saturday morning, and in the afternoon going into the evening in the western Overberg District, Garden Route District of the Western Cape.

Expect partly cloudy and warm weather conditions in Gauteng, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

In Mpumalanga, expect fog patches on the high ground at first, otherwise cloudy in the early morning, with drizzle along the escarpment, becoming partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the east.

Limpopo will be cloudy along the escarpment in the morning, with drizzle and fog patches, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

The North West and the Free State will be cloudy and cool to warm, with showers and thundershowers.

Expect morning fog along the coast of the western parts of the Northern Cape, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, but hot in the interior. It will become cloudy in the afternoon, with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly.

In the Western Cape, expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions at times and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread along the south coast. It will be very hot over the Central Karoo. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh easterly to south-easterly south of Table Bay, otherwise northerly to north-westerly. 

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the north. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly. The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be partly cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the north. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly, becoming north easterly towards the evening.

Expect partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions in KwaZulu-Natal, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated over the extreme north. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to north-easterly.
