On this week's episode of The Science Inside, the Wits Radio Academy looks at the science behind the M1 bridge collapse in Johannesburg.WATCH

Johannesburg - A religious cleansing ceremony was held at the scene of the M1 Grayston Bridge collapse in Sandton last month which killed two people and injured 19 others, the City of Johannesburg said.

The city said it had consulted the affected families and had received their consent to conduct the ceremony.

Of the 19 who were injured when the bridge collapsed, only one person was still in hospital and another was at a rehabilitation facility.

"All the injured continue to be supported with counselling and/or outpatient care," the city said.

The scaffolding that collapsed last month was a support structure for what was intended to be a pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting Alexandra and Sandton.

It collapsed onto the M1 at Grayston Drive at about 15:30 on October 14. The driver of a minibus taxi and a man in a Toyota Fortuner were killed.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
