Durban - Scores of people were injured in a collision involving two buses on the junction of Chris Hani and Old North Coast roads in Avoca, Durban, on Monday morning.

Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said medics had attended to more than twenty wounded commuters.

"Marshall Security were alerted to the incident by members of the public just after 07:00. A call was made for the assistance of Netcare911 emergency care practitioners who attended to the casualties," he said.

"Their injuries ranged from minor to serious. All were stabilised at the roadside before they were transported by ambulance to various hospitals in the greater Durban area," Van Reenen added.

He said that, at this stage, it was unclear what had caused the collision. The authorities were on the scene and would investigate further.

The collision caused severe traffic congestion on Chris Hani Road and the N2 north near KwaMashu.
