Johannesburg - A security guard believed to be in his 40s, was left critically injured after he was shot in the back on 1st Avenue in Houghton Johannesburg, paramedic services said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with provincial services, found the man lying partially inside his guard hut.

Meiring said that after assessing the patient, paramedics found that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to his back, leaving him “in a critical state”.

“Paramedics removed the man from within the hut and immediately began their treatment, providing the patient with numerous advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patient was transported to a private hospital for further treatment.”
