Durban - A Durban security guard dealt with a peculiar emergency on Tuesday - saving a drowning dog from a swimming pool at a home in Parkhill.

Marshall Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said their emergency control centre received a call from a panicked client.

"The frantic caller stated that her dog, a female Labrador, had been chasing monkeys in her yard when it jumped the fence and managed to get into a neighbouring property.

"In the excitement of the chase the dog had failed to see the swimming pool and had reportedly fallen in. With the neighbour not home at the time, the caller could not gain access to the property to assist her furry friend," van Reenen said.

He added that reaction officer Selvan Moodley was alerted to the incident and immediately responded.

"Selvan managed to gain access to the property by jumping the fence where he found the dog in visible distress battling to stay afloat in the swimming pool.

"Swift action saw the dog rescued and returned to her owner in a stable condition and in high spirits," he said.
