Cape Town - An attempted cash-in-transit heist at Sable Square in Milnerton, Cape Town, resulted in a shoot-out between robbers and security guards on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana told News24 that two security guards were loading the ATMs at the shopping centre around 10:00 when a silver Toyota Tazz pulled up carrying four men.

"The suspects got out of the vehicle and started shooting at the security guards, who returned fire. One of the security officers was shot in the leg," she said.

The men then fled the scene in their getaway car and no money was taken.

Police were investigating, Rwexana said.
