Pretoria - A man was shot dead and another wounded when they tried to rob a business in Temba, near Hammanskraal, with a toy gun on Friday, Gauteng police said.

A security guard confronted four men when they entered the business, allegedly to rob  it, early on Friday morning, Captain Kay Makhubela said.

One of them was carrying a real firearm, and his accomplice a toy gun. A shootout broke out, during which one of the four was killed. The man with the toy gun was wounded. The other two ran away.

A unlicensed firearm was found on the scene. The injured suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.
