Security guards, robber killed at KZN mall

Durban – Three people were shot dead and two others were wounded during a robbery at the Umlazi Mall on Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

A group of heavily-armed suspects entered one of the shops at the mall at 13:40 and took money and customers’ cellphones, Lt Col Thulani Zwane said.

Two security guards approached the suspects and a shoot-out ensued. The two guards, aged 31 and 34, and one of the suspected robbers, were killed.

Two women bystanders were shot and wounded. One of them was pregnant. They were taken to a local hospital.

The suspects ran away. No arrests had been made.

A case of business robbery, three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder were opened.
