It’s been three years since the tragic death of Orlando Pirates goalie Senzo Meyiwa.

Today in 2014 Senzo was shot and killed during an alleged robbery at his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mom’s house in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Fans of the soccer star are still shocked by his death because his killers are still out there. Let’s remember the father of three:

1.       His final match

Senzo’s final match was the day before his murder and it was against Ajax Cape Town. The game ended in a 4-1 victory for Orlando Pirates.

2.       TP Mazembe penalty save

Remember how Senzo famously saved two penalties against Congolese club TP Mazembe in the Caf Champions League in 2013? His performance landed him the Bafana Bafana captain post.

3.       Killer dance moves

During a performance by Zakes Bantwini at the Orlando Pirates Club Awards in 2014, Senzo revealed his killer dance moves when he got on stage and got down to it.

4.       Funeral fit for a king

Senzo’s final journey started at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban – where thousands of fans, celebrities and politicians came to say their final goodbyes. Rebecca Malope paid a heart-warming tribute to Senzo with an emotional performance.

5.       Million-rand smile

Senzo (27) was always smiling and adored his fans. He always seemed happy and handled scandalous moments with grace.

6.       A good singer

Senzo would tease his Instagram followers by posting videos of him singing along to songs. The last video he posted was of him singing along to girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s hit, Asine.

7.       Bromance with Itu

Senzo and Itumeleng Khune’s “rivalry” actually brought them closer together. They competed for the number-one goalie post since they were 15 years old, eventually escalating their friendly feud to national level when they both played for Bafana Bafana.
