Pietermaritzburg – Protesters have shut down the R74 in Muden, Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele advised motorists to use alternative routes as service delivery protesters had blockaded the road with stones and rubble.

There was a huge traffic backlog in the area, Mbhele said.

"We confirm that community members have blockaded the road with stones and rubble. No injuries and no damages have been reported at this stage. Police are at the scene to stabilise the situation," she said.
