Cape Town - A police task force has managed to rearrest seven of 14 awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the holding cells of the Delft police station, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

The 14 escaped after assaulting and overpowering a police officer on Saturday morning. The warrant officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the special task force worked diligently to track down seven prisoners, aged 20 to 29, to date.

Police warned residents not to approach the remaining escapees. They could forward any information on their whereabouts to the Delft SAPS or Crime Stop.
