Durban - Several shacks have burnt to the ground on Bellair Road in Cato Manor, Durban, on Saturday afternoon, Rescue Care said.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics responded to the fire at around 15:00 on Saturday afternoon. 

Jamieson said many shacks were already alight. 

The Durban Fire Department was in attendance and extinguished the blaze. 

Jamieson said one person had sustained slight inhalation burns and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals. 

Bellair Road was closed while fire fighters were containing the fire.

The cause of the fire was still unknown.
