WATCH: Ennerdale community split over protests

2017-05-11 11:36

Parents from Ennerdale have gathered outside Mid-Ennerdale Primary school after protesters in the area reportedly threatened to burn the school.WATCH

Jakes Gerwel Drive near Mitchells Plain in Cape Town has been shut down, following a protest on Monday.

Workers burned rubbish in the middle of the road, which led to the road closure, law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said.

"A group of people who work at Siqalo informal settlement, between Jakes Gerwel Drive and Highlands [Drive] have an issue with a contractor," said Dyason.

Traffic services spokesperson Richard Coleman said the road would be reopened once City of Cape Town's cleansing services personnel clear the road.
