Cape Town – Few users have downloaded the new Economic Freedom Fighters mobile application.

The EFF launched a mobile application to stay connected to their members, but less than five people have downloaded it, according to data from Google Play Store.

The EFF, which launched its manifesto at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday, describes itself as a movement, rather than a political party.

"The Economic Freedom Fighters is a radical and militant economic emancipation movement that brings together revolutionary, fearless, radical, and militant activists, workers’ movements, non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations and lobby groups under the umbrella of pursuing the struggle for economic emancipation," says the app description.

The application prominently features leader Julius Malema, as well as a membership application. Geo-location awareness also informs subscribers of the closest EFF office.

Mobile marketing firm 864Mobile developed the 7.3MB application, which went live on April 26.

It also features Facebook pages and YouTube links to Malema's political speeches.

An African National Congress app launched in 2013 has between 500 and 1 000 subscribers, and a Democratic Alliance application launched on April 14 registered between 10 and 50 installations.
