Social media outcry after Airbnb assault

Cape Town - South Africans have expressed outrage on social media after visual artist Sibahle Steve Nkumbi was assaulted by an Airbnb host in the Netherlands.

Nkumbi was thrown down a staircase and told, “This is not Africa”. A video recording of the incident, captured by fellow artist Zanele Muholi, went viral and resulted in the host being arrested.

Nkumbi was in Amsterdam to help Muholi with work on an exhibit at the Stedelijk Museum.

Many South Africans were horrified and said the host's actions were racist.
