Steroid den shut down in Benoni

Johannesburg – East Rand police raided an illicit steroid den in Benoni on Wednesday, seizing hundreds of bottles of what is believed to be anabolic steroids.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said a joint operation between Ekurhuleni Metro Police and the SAPS had seen officers descending on the 8th Avenue house in Cloverdene, Crystal Park.

“Police raided a house in Benoni and confiscated more than three hundred 30ml size bottles of steroids. There were no arrests made as there was nobody at Plot No.39 in 8th Avenue at Cloverdene, Crystal Park,” he said.

“The police were acting on information received about a house that is selling steroids without the necessary authority and selling them indiscriminately to any person. Steroids are categorised as drugs and may only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription since if wrongly used, could have dire health consequences,” Kgasago added.

It was unclear what the steroids street value was.
