Stiff sentences for Limpopo rhino poachers

Pretoria – Five rhino poachers were each jailed for 15 years by the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court in Limpopo, SA National Parks said on Monday.

Job Tlou, Percy Manengena, Johannes Podile Sematla, Lebala Sematla, and Masolo Saul were sentenced to 15 years each, while a sixth poacher, Albino Fernando Sematla, received 10 years, spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli said.

They were sentenced on Friday. They were found guilty of illegally hunting and dehorning a white rhino bull in the Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site in July 2014.

Thakhuli said they were happy with the sentences.
