Rustenburg - Police are still searching for a 24-year-old man who was allegedly shot and killed by a farmer for stealing oranges in Majakaneng, North West.

"We are still in the area and continuing with the investigation on a missing person inquiry and attempted murder case," police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said on Thursday.

Violence erupted on Sunday and Monday evening after community members returned from a farm where Tebogo Ndlovu was allegedly killed on August 2.

They allege that Ndlovu was with two other men when the farmer allegedly opened fire on them. The two men opened the case last week Friday, August 11.

On Tuesday morning, August 15, two vehicles were set alight on the N4 near Rustenburg and protesters threw stones at passing motorists.

When asked if the violence was related to Ndlovu's death, Mokgwabone said: "The community is in a better position to explain why they are doing this."

No arrest has been made since.

Mokgwabone said the situation had been quiet since Tuesday afternoon, but that the N4, R104 and R566 remained closed.

Motorists were advised to use the R511 and R512 as alternative routes.
