Johannesburg - Struggle icon Andrew Mlangeni is believed to have been hospitalised at Netcare Sunninghill hospital.

A well-placed source, who could not be named, said that Mlangeni was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

The source said that the struggle icon had arrived in an ambulance with a police escort.

It was unclear why Mlangeni needed to be hospitalised.

Last week, the ANC's Liliesleaf Farm Branch chairperson, Pat Baloyi, told a branch meeting held in Midrand, Johannesburg that Mlangeni was meant to address the meeting but could not because he was unwell and in hospital.

The hospital declined to comment.
