Sunday's Weather: Heavy rains and flood warnings for SA, while strong winds continue to blow in the Cape

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the country on Sunday, with strong winds in the Western and Northern Cape.

Weather Warnings

Heavy rainfall leading to localised flooding and flash flooding is expected along the south coast in the Western Cape, as well as parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the Little and Central Karoo in the Western Cape, with strong damaging winds and localised flooding.

Strong interior winds (50-60km/h) are expected over Hantam and Karoo Hoogland municipalities in the Northern Cape including Beaufort West  Municipality and Cape Metropole in the Western Cape.

Your regional weather

Gauteng will be cloudy in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the Lowveld early in the morning.

Limpopo can expect cloudy and warm to hot conditions with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The North West will be fine and warm to hot, but partly cloudy in the east, spreading to the west by the afternoon, with scattered showers and thundershowers in the east, but isolated in the central parts.

Morning fog patches are expected in the Free State where it will be cloudy in the extreme east at first, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot, but cool in the south east and eastern parts.  Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, but isolated in the north western parts.

Cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions in the Northern Cape with morning fog along the coast.otherwise fine becoming partly cloudy with afternoon isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the southern parts where it will be cold.The wind along the coast will be fresh south-easterly becoming moderate south-westerly in the afternoon.

The Western Cape will be partly cloudy in the west where it will be warm otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated to scattered showers and rain but scattered thundershowers over the Little and Central Karoo.The wind along the coast will be strong to near gale south-easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index will be very high.

Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers in the western half of the Eastern Cape. The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh easterly. Meanwhile the eastern half will be cloudy and cool and scattered showers and thundershowers but widespread in the north.The wind along the coast will be Light to moderate south easterly becoming easterly by late afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal will experience morning fog over the interior, otherwise cloudy and cool but cold over south-western high-ground with scattered showers and rain.The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh south -westerly, but strong at times between Durban and Cate St.Lucia.

The expected UVB sunburn index is low.
