Durban – Kranskop authorities nabbed a 36-year-old suspect within 24 hours after he allegedly killed a mother and daughter, police said on Sunday.Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said detectives made the breakthrough and charged the man with two counts of murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Friday.According to the police spokesperson, the women were at their homestead in the Ekwazini area near Kranskop on Thursday when the man approached them. He allegedly shot and killed his 25-year-old girlfriend and her 50-year-old mother after an argument, Zwane said, adding that he then fled the scene, but was found in the KwaDukuza area on Friday morning.According to Zwane, police recovered a 9mm pistol suspected to be the same firearm used to kill women. The suspect is due to appear in the Kranskop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.Acting provincial commissioner, Bhekinkosi Langa, commended the police for their quick arrest. "This is strongly condemned and totally unacceptable in our society. These two defenceless women were shot and killed for no apparent reason," he said."I appeal to the community to stand up and report criminals who are in possession of unlicensed firearms as they contribute in murders."
