Burgersfort – A suspect who allegedly killed a man after they apparently argued about soccer players in Kgautswane village outside Burgersfort on Saturday night has handed himself over to police.

On Sunday afternoon police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said that the suspect, who initially fled the scene, handed himself in at the Leboeng Police Station.

Police had launched a manhunt for the gunman.

The suspect, believed to be a well-known businessman, allegedly shot the victim several times, Ngoepe said.

"The motive behind this killing is still unknown but our preliminary investigations have revealed that they were having a conflict over soccer players... [they] both [have] soccer teams," he said.

The wounded man was rushed to the local clinic where he died on arrival.

Ngoepe said the suspect left the scene in his vehicle, which was later found abandoned with flat tyres along the R36 outside Burgersfort.
