Johannesburg – An alleged drug dealer, in possession of CAT valued at R100 000 was arrested in Benoni on Sunday, the Ekhurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) said.

“Acting on information from a reliable source, the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members were able to apprehend a suspected drug dealer,” said spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago in a statement.

He said before his arrest, the dealer had been under surveillance for a week.

“The patience of the metro police bore fruit when they pounced upon the suspect in his room at the Calderwood Lifestyle flats at Extension 13 in Benoni and uncovered a massive quantity of CAT in block form,” said Kgasago.

A total of R21 500 cash was also confiscated, “suspected of being proceeds from the illicit drug-trading”.

The 28-year-old, from Nigeria, has been charged with possession and dealing in illicit substances and will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
