Cape Town - A suspicion of infidelity was believed to be the motive behind the murder of teenager Sinoxolo Mafevuka, the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court heard on Wednesday.

The two accused are cousins of Mafevuka's boyfriend, who had gone in search of her days before her murder, and after she left a local tavern with another man, investigating officer Constable Isaac Tshabalala testified.

The cousins and boyfriend had spent a night in February searching for the 19-year-old and confronted her when they found her the next day, he said during their bail application.

They later confronted the man she had left with and tried to assault him, but he fled, Tshabalala said.

"The boyfriend met with the deceased after he came home from work. A friend of hers said he was still very angry, but they spent the night together in his shack."

The next day, the boyfriend left for work, leaving Mafevuka in his shack. He was planning to marry her.

"During the day she was fine. She went home past 19:00, and later tried to find someone to accompany her to the toilet."

Mafevuka never wanted to go to the toilet alone and always tried to find someone to go with her.

She was last seen near the home of the two accused, on Monday, February 29.

A local resident found her in the communal toilets on the morning of Tuesday, March 1. Tshabalala said it was believed that she had been left there after being raped and killed.

The day Mafevuka's body was found, the two accused apparently told another relative that they "did something" to her.

The relative told Mafevuka's boyfriend, who then told the police, Tshabalala said. The cousins, he added, shared a strong bond.

"When you fight the one, you fight them all."

The accused, aged 22 and 26, may not be named for their safety, the magistrate has ruled.
