Johannesburg – A suspected robber was killed in a shootout with police on Saturday evening in Johannesburg.

Police spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai, said two female JMPD officers were disarmed by three men in KwaMai, Jeppe while they were attending to an accident. The men then ran away.

"Last night at about 23:00 police got information that two of the suspects were seen outside a tavern at Maboneni in Jeppestown," Munyai said.

Officers from the SA Police Service and JMPD arrived at the scene and a shootout ensued.

One suspect was shot dead while the other one was arrested. The two firearms believed to have been stolen from the JMPD members were recovered.
