Cape Town - Thirty firefighters worked through Friday night and Saturday morning to put out a fire on Table Mountain.

The fire started near the Maclear Beacon on the eastern side of the world heritage site famous for its fauna and flora and sweeping sea views.

''It was brought under control by 06:50,'' said JP Smith, the city's mayoral committee member for safety and security.

Non-profit Volunteer Wildlife Service posted a picture of exhausted fire fighters at the top of the mountain after their trying night.

Smith said that to his knowledge nobody was injured.
