Pietermaritzburg - Pietermaritzburg's water woes continued over the weekend, with taps running dry in many parts of the city.

According to Msunduzi municipality process manager for water and sanitation Brenden Sivpersad, parts of Northdale, Allandale, Montrose, Edendale and Mountain Rise were left without water on Saturday. Sivpersad said the Prestbury area was also left without water for about six hours yesterday.

“If we continue consuming the amount of water we are currently, the water cuts may get worse,” Sivpersad said. Last month, The Witness reported that Umgeni Water had been instructed by the Water and Sanitation Department to reduce the amount of water supplied to Msunduzi by five percent, because users are not saving enough.

This weekend’s water cuts are as result of that five percent reduction.
